SFDP 2024

Symposium

36th symposium of the french primatology society 2024

The theme of the symposium will be “Science-Society Issues in Primatology”, bringing together around a hundred researchers, conservationists, students, artists and those involved in scientific mediation.

Each year, the SFDP colloquium is held in a French-speaking country (usually France, Belgium or Switzerland, but also the Democratic Republic of Congo or Senegal).

In October 2024, for the first time, the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST), one of Toulouse’s many renowned academic institutions, will have the honor and responsibility of organizing the 36th SFDP symposium.

IAST’s research on and with human and non-human primates in Eco-ethology, Sociology, Anthropology and Economics will create new bridges between a wide range of disciplines. The theme of the symposium will highlight scientific popularization, awareness-raising and communication, and offer a wide range of contemporary reflections on the links between science and society, by inviting artists, communicators and popularizers.

Over the 3.5 days of conferences, we’re planning two round-table discussions related to the theme of the symposium, two scientific plenary sessions and a closing conference for the general public, 45 oral presentations by participants and a poster session (around 50), an exhibition of artworks depicting primates by two artists, the screening of a film related to primates followed by a discussion, an afternoon of workshops related to popularization and scientific communication, and the Society’s annual general meeting, a high point for information exchange and discussion.
